“I’ve never used the internet.”

I’m tired of celebrities who try to seem cool by saying they don’t use the internet. I found an Glamour from last year with Jennifer Connelly where she said that she doesn’t understand Facebook or Twitter. Then came Winona Ryder who claims she’s never used the internet. She later says she accesses email on her Blackberry- so I have to let her know that yes, she has used the internet. So why do they try to shy away from technology? It’s one thing to say that they actively avoid entertainment sites or blogs, because reading those sort of things only…

The Elephant in the Room

I haven’t blogged since Friday. I was busy this weekend with the oldest kidlet’s birthday party, then doctor appointments and a family photo shoot… and then something happened. Something so jarring that I haven’t been able to really put the words to paper (so to speak). My best friend Jerad died. Jerad was going to come to the birthday party, but he’d decided not to come since he was sick. I got a message from his mother on Tuesday morning asking if I’d heard from him, and I called her to let her know. We were both concerned- since it…

The Kidlet’s Birthday

Sunday was the Oldest Kidlet’s birthday party, and as usual it came together as a last minute deal. On Saturday I bought the ingredients for the meal and the oldest kidlet settled on the theme. Disney/Pixar’s Cars. As usual, I made the cupcakes myself. I bought the little Cars edible decorations (how cute are Lightning and Mater?). For the cupcakes I used Joy the Baker’s Vanilla Cupcakes. As soon as I saw that it used vanilla bean paste, I knew I had to try it. The frosting is Fake Ginger’s Cinnamon Frosting. For me, this frosting was life changing. The…

End of the week wrap-up.

It’s been a busy week, internet. What have I neglected to tell you? I got a minivan last weekend, and am shocked to say that I love it. It’s wonderful having my own car and I get to use the built in bluetooth to make myself laugh. How so? We’ve already established that I’m a geek, right? Well, back when I was pregnant with the Oldest Kidlet I called my mom all the time, and burned through all of her minutes one month since we’re on different providers. My dad’s solution was simple- they just added a new line to…

Webcomic Wednesday: Sailor Twain

And now, a feature I meant to keep up and thought nobody was interested in. Turns out, I was wrong! I read a lot of webcomics, so I thought I might as well share some of my favorites. This week’s offering is “Sailor Twain or The Mermaid in the Hudson” by Mark Siegel. It is the story of Sailor Twain, who captains/ed the “Lorelei” and yes, there is a mermaid. It’s currently updating, and is the graphic novel equivalent of a 19th century serial novel- something that is near and dear to my heart. The artwork is stunning, and I…
