In training for the 5k, I did what many people who haven’t exercised at all have done- turned to Couch to 5k to help me do it.
I followed the routine fairly religiously. I started off by walking a mile for a couple of weeks, and then started the program. But no matter what I did, I hit a wall at Week 3 Day 2. I just couldn’t finish it.
Would I recommend it? It’s a good system that I know others have had some success with, but it just wasn’t for me. I do think it’s worth giving it a shot.
Just make sure you’re giving yourself plenty of time before your first race, so that you can repeat days if you hit a wall.
Find a community so that you have support from people trying it out (I didn’t).
And don’t be afraid to look for other options if you aren’t liking it.
