Priorities.

If you’ve been following me on Twitter, I’ve been making plans for my next cosplay. Lady Loki. Well, a hybrid of the Lady Loki from the comics and a feminine version of Loki from the Avengers. I figured out the design, and I’ve figured out how to make the props I want. But there’s a huge problem. While I could finish it in time… there are a lot of things that should be higher up on my priority list. Namely, getting our stuff organized. We’ve been living here in with the in-laws for almost 5 years, and we sort of…

A Twitter User’s Take on Self Promotion

I’m the first to admit, I’m not a social networking guru. Though really- anyone who calls themselves a guru probably isn’t an actual expert. (I’m not an expert, but if I were, I would never call myself a guru) What I am is someone who has been on Twitter for 6 years now. Six years! In the last two years I’ve begun to follow a lot of people promoting their own work (writers/musicians/filmmakers, and I’ve noticed that a few have social media habits that make me hit that ‘unfollow’ button and in some cases block them. Problem #1 – Spam.…

My boys.

I was going to post something about the news… but everything was making me ragey. So instead I’m going to offer you this. My boys. These two are best friends, and one of the few things I can’t really take credit for. They hold hands, they hug. And today- they held hands while jumping cracks in the sidewalk. I love these two.

The Billboard Sees All!

I suppose I should explain the title of the post. Everyday I drive past a bus stop with ad space on the shelter. If there’s a movie being advertised, without fail, the movie advertised will be a flop. Don’t believe me? Here’s the list of movies from the last couple years. Red Riding Hood In Time Abduction Due Date GI Joe Battleship Typically, the movie is either not very good or will underperform. Now, across the street? That one gets all the good movies- it had The Hobbit, Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers… The billboard sees all. They put up a new…

Friday Night Random: Chapman University

Here’s something new, a random fact about me. The kidlets are in bed, and well, I just realized I haven’t told this story in awhile. For two years I went to Chapman University in Orange, CA. I transferred to a state school after that because I had no idea what to be, and Chapman wasn’t the university to be aimless at. Chapman has a yearly fundraiser that the theater & music department team up on, putting together a night of musical theater. My first year there, it was A Night on Broadway, and there were medleys from famous Broadway Musicals.…

Valentines Day and Being Loki.

I was going to write about why I don’t really like Valentine’s Day (and the only Valentine’s Day that mattered to me) – but I did that two years ago. (Go read it, really!) What I do like is that it’s an excuse for me to make dinner for TheBoy. In years past, I’ve done steaks, risotto… this year I’m making turkey tikka masala w/ naan. YUM. However, the story I have to share today has nothing to do with V-Day. It has to do with The Avengers. Now, of TheBoy and I, I am the comic book geek. Though…

Ramen & Karaoke – an adventure.

Thursday night, TheBoy asked me something unexpected. He asked if I wanted to go to karaoke with some co-workers of his. Now, this isn’t unexpected for me. I have a singing background, and as anxious as I get in social situations, singing in front of people isn’t a problem. Sometimes, it’s actually calmed me down. However, TheBoy is not much of a singer. I can count on two hands the number of times I’ve heard him singing in the car. And previously, I knew he was probably drunk when he joined in singing along to Beatles Rock Band. So it…

Green grass.

Kids are insane. This is a story about the Oldest Kidlet, but I’ve heard from other parents that I’m not alone. Last year, the Oldest Kidlet begged me to let him buy lunch now and then. I figured there was no harm in it, and even the remote possibility that he might try something new. While he hasn’t gone beyond chicken nuggets and hamburgers, it’s broken up the monotony and made him happy. This year, I started to hear a different tune. “Mom, LittleGeekGirl always brings her lunch. She never buys it. I don’t want to buy lunch anymore.” But…

Swept up by madness.

There’s so much going on around here. For some reason, February is filled with doctor’s visits- including the Little Kidlet’s annual trip to the allergist, which is actually made up of three visits. The checkup, the scratch test and then the follow-up to the scratch test. The Little Kidlet has had a pretty good year. Only a few noticeable reactions, and all but one we know exactly what triggered it. Especially in the last few months he’s really begun to understand the concept of allergies and that he shouldn’t eat food in class parties or at birthday parties unless I…

Super Bowl 2013

I’m not a fan of football. I’ve jokingly called myself a college football widow (though TheBoy has found a nice balance of football and family). But I do love the Super Bowl. It’s a time for family to come together, to enjoy some commercials and to eat. So when I was asked to handle the food for this years’ shindig, I jumped at the chance (I’m including a list of the recipes I made at the bottom of this post. I didn’t see all of the ads, but what I did see was a little underwhelming. I was not immune…
