Mine.

If you’re a parent, odds are you’ve heard the word mine far too often. And you know, after 7 years of being a mom, I’m doing something drastic. I’m being selfish. Last week, I was making tacos for the Little Kidlet and I. Some of them were a little burnt, while others were perfectly fried. In a moment of selfishness, I gave myself the perfect ones, and the burnt ones to LK. He didn’t care. Sunday morning I was making hash browns for the Little Kidlet and I, and I kept the perfectly golden part for myself. And you know…

Friday Ficlet: Storm

I woke up early this morning to find that there was a thunderstorm. I got out of bed briefly to unplug my laptop and then let the rain take me back to sleep. But more interestingly was what happened before I woke up. I was in the midst of a dream about my novel, when out of the blue lightning flashed and thunder cracked, and a character from a TV show I enjoy was in the middle of it all. And it led to writing this ficlet (though it isn’t the character from the show).

Vlog #10: Q&A Time

A couple weeks ago I asked for some questions so I could put together a Q&A vid, and there was no disappointment there! This week’s question came from my Facebook Page, where Stephen Mitchell asked: “With everyone clamoring for Hollywood to make original movies, why does an original concept such as ‘Sucker Punch’ get so much flak?” While I answered the general question about Hollywood, I did already tackle my thoughts on Sucker Punch as a movie- you can read them here. If you have any questions that you want me to answer in future Q&A videos, you can leave…

Review: Beef’d Up

First of all, apologies to anyone outside of LA. But we went to a new restaurant in Whittier, and I had to share. Because it’s new, the food was great and I want this place to succeed. Beef’d Up is a gourmet burger restaurant located in Whittier at the intersection of Beverly Blvd and Norwalk Blvd. There are probably 10 total tables in the place, both indoors and two benches outside. The idea behind it is that they use all fresh ingredients and natural/humanely raised beef. Their sauces are all made in-house. Their menu is pretty basic. They have a…

[Vlog] Number Nine: Fake Geek Girls

After two weeks away (yikes!), I filmed an extra long vlog this week. All about Fake Geek Girls and the misconception that Geekdom is overwhelmingly male. I do apologize if some of this is unclear- I originally shot twenty four minutes on the subject, and still haven’t mastered working off a script. But I have a feeling I’m going to be writing out a companion post for this vlog. Any thoughts? Questions for my Q&A video?

The WIRED mom.

Summer continues, and I’ve had an odd week. I’ve been struggling to figure out a routine now that both kids are home all day long, and I did have some progress- at the cost of my blog and vlog last week. I’ve also become dependent on caffeine again. This has been an ongoing problem for me, and very troublesome considering I rely on caffeine to help me get through headaches. So how did it all happen? I fell into a weird sleep cycle. I’ve been staying up late watching Supernatural with TheBoy (yes, I got him hooked), and getting up…

Happy 4th!

Apparently that week off from the blog was a bad idea. In the endless stream of life that is summer, I completely forgot to keep up my schedule. So here I am with a blog on the day I normally post a vlog. Next week, things will be back to normal. I admit that of all the holidays, I’m not that big about the Fourth of July. It’s mostly a lot of fireworks- and having had dogs in high school and being far enough on the outskirts of town that people would light illegal fireworks… it sort of took the…
