Archives for August 2013

No vlog this week, again.

I have one recorded, I just have to find time to edit it. And admittedly, I’ve fallen into a pit of reading (where all I’ve been doing is reading), but it’s been keeping me from worrying about the 5k I have early early early tomorrow morning. At any rate, love to you all, and I’ll have the vid up next week.

Water water everywhere.

Well, on my street. This weekend, I got to see my cousin J for the first time in 15 years. (I know, I feel horrible that it’s been that long) And we had a fantastic time, but I walked away from that Disneyland trip with food poisoning. I’m feeling better. This is only important because it explains why I was sort of dozing in the middle of the night. So I was drifting in and out of sleep and heard things that didn’t quite make sense. Like cars driving through water, even though I knew it wasn’t raining. Or the…

Can I throttle the Morton’s girl?

I’m so behind on my normal posting schedule, it’s ridiculous. I’m alive! I swear! First, the check engine light popped up on my car, then it went off and the tire thing came on. So I got that checked out. Then the check engine light came back on right as we were going on vacation (nothing wrong with the engine) and it turned off on the way home. What else… the kidlets started school and apparently I lost all my shopping list skills, because there’s always something that I forgot, so all I’ve been doing is stopping at the store.…

SPON: Smartphones and teens, what’s your concern?

I participated in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Zact. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. While my kidlets are still pretty little, they get their hands on my phone as often as they possibly can- so as a parent, I try to keep up with the apps that kids use and ways to keep them safe. Over at Zact, they took a survey of parents to see what their concerns were. It’s predicted that by 2017, 73% of children ages 12-17 will be using smart phones. What do you worry about…

This is the end.

The End of Summer, that is. But Whitney, you ask. How could it possibly be the end of summer? Well, the Kidlets start school this week, so… end of summer. To commemorate it, we got a hotel room down in Anaheim, and spent the weekend there. It was a relaxed weekend. The Oldest Kidlet (and by extension TheBoy) spent most of Saturday at the pool, while the Little Kidlet spent most of the vacation glued to my side. He’s actually still glued to my side. It seems like every couple hours he’s finding a reason to burrow in under my…

[Vlog] The (few) things I don’t like about Ocarina of Time

This week’s vlog is a bit of a spin-off from last week’s vlog, where I talked about video games and mentioned that I had feelings about Legend of Zelda, namely Ocarina of Time. It’s my favorite video game. No, really. But as someone who loves it, there are a couple areas that I think could be improved, and things that drive me insane. So I discuss how the game treats its female characters (and I do have to say, it’s a treat that there are so many secondary characters that are important to the game that are female) and the…

The Other Side of the Coin

I started to write this blog post last night, and got so far as an outline before I found myself in the middle of a panic attack. There were some lovely lovely people from Tumblr who talked me out of my panic so that I could talk to TheBoy about it. I tried to vlog this- but it turned into a sea of inappropriate laughs and tears. But I said it, which meant I could write it. All I ask is that you try to see this from my POV. I’ve written a lot about my health issues. The Crohn’s,…

[Vlog] 10: Q&A, Part II – Video Games

This is the final installment of my Q&A videos, and this amazing question was spun off from a point raised in my Fake Geek Girls video. So behold- discussing the SWM influence on video games, and a moment where I confess something that sounds utterly horrible when taken out of context. In this video I bring up the recent Tomb Raider game, and the controversy that popped up around E3. If you’re unfamiliar with it, I wrote a couple of blog posts about it- this one’s the first, and links to the second. Honestly, if you’re looking for a video…
