Happy Thanksgiving!

And a Happy Birthday to the Oldest Kidlet, who has amused us all with the ways he’s responded to Happy Birthday. When I said it to him, he was still in bed, playing the new Legend of Zelda game on his 3DS. He looked at me, somewhat sleepily. “Happy Birthday to you,” he said. “Babe, that’s not how that works. It’s just your birthday.” “Oh, right.” Then when my mom said it about 15 minutes later, he said, “Oh yeah.” And 10 minutes after that when my dad said it, Oldest Kidlet looked up and said, “Why did you kiss…

Should there be tie-ins for The Hunger Games?

Tomorrow morning, I’ll be watching Day of the Doctor. I’m going to try to clear my schedule and watch it in my room, with plenty of water and tissues. Just so I’m prepared. I think that when The Hunger Games came out, I wrote a post about how weird it was to hear questions from the media that completely ignored the message of the movie. Most of the questions were about trying to suggest there was an actual love triangle, when let’s face it, any of the romantic sub-plot stuff is minimal at best. While I applaud the social media…

Does anyone RSVP anymore?

Last weekend was the Kidlets’ joint Birthday Party. Being that their birthdays are a month and a half apart, and the Oldest Kidlet’s birthday is so close to Thanksgiving, it just makes sense to throw them together. Invitations went out to about 4 friends of the Little Kidlet (he was very specific) and about 12 of the Oldest Kidlet’s closest friends. And nobody RSVP’d. We wound up with a good turnout, but it was sort of mind-wracking. I had to guess how many people would actually show up (adults and children) and order food to accommodate that. We wound up…

Faulty Logic or is it Racist?

Before I get into anything else, I hope that you heard about Typhoon Haiyan’s damage to the Philippines. If you could, please find an organization to donate to. TIME has a compilation of organizations and ways you can help. If you’re going to donate to the Red Cross, click through the above link and donate to the Philippine Red Cross. Now, having spent a lot of time on Tumblr, I’ve seen a lot of overreactions to media. As much as I’ve learned – about living with mental illnesses, different perspectives on stories in the media… often you see a lot…

Just stay home

Once Upon a Time, I worked at Disneyland. And I had a great time, I honestly did. But there was always one downside- Disneyland is open 365 days a year. So if you were new, it guaranteed you’d get the worst holiday shifts. Working during dinner time on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas, until midnight on New Year’s Eve. And it would take awhile to get the kind of seniority to get the holiday shifts you’d want, and even longer to get them off. So your family would have to learn to adapt. I remember that TheBoy’s family would set…

Yesterday’s Vlog and Today’s Thoughts

Oops – I forgot to post the Vlog here yesterday: So tell me, what was YOUR all time favorite costume… and how badly do you want me to get TheBoy on the Vlog? This morning, as I pulled up to the elementary school, the street ahead was filled with utility trucks. Water main. And as soon as I dropped off the kids, I knew. I knew I was going to get a phone call telling me to pick up my kids. Which I just did. They’re smart, ending the day just before lunchtime would have started… I know, not many…
