Just stay home

Once Upon a Time, I worked at Disneyland. And I had a great time, I honestly did. But there was always one downside- Disneyland is open 365 days a year. So if you were new, it guaranteed you’d get the worst holiday shifts. Working during dinner time on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas, until midnight on New Year’s Eve. And it would take awhile to get the kind of seniority to get the holiday shifts you’d want, and even longer to get them off. So your family would have to learn to adapt. I remember that TheBoy’s family would set…

Yesterday’s Vlog and Today’s Thoughts

Oops – I forgot to post the Vlog here yesterday: So tell me, what was YOUR all time favorite costume… and how badly do you want me to get TheBoy on the Vlog? This morning, as I pulled up to the elementary school, the street ahead was filled with utility trucks. Water main. And as soon as I dropped off the kids, I knew. I knew I was going to get a phone call telling me to pick up my kids. Which I just did. They’re smart, ending the day just before lunchtime would have started… I know, not many…

Everyone Hail to to the Pumpkin Song

(I’m 90% sure I’ve already used ‘This is Halloween’ as a post title) I really don’t have much to say, other than I’m in the midst of a lot of things. With Halloween on Thursday, I’ve got character parades to prepare for and a class Halloween Party to supervise. I love the way that the elementary school handles the costume parade. In order to walk in it, the students have to bring a book that relates to their costume- they mention going to the public library or school library if they can’t find a book. Two years back, the Oldest…

Vlog 20: Whitney’s Horrible No Good Icky Day

Ever have a day where nothing seems to go right? Sadly, I recorded this around noon yesterday… and the day did get worse. The Oldest Kidlet was in a bad mood, the Little Kidlet didn’t want to let go of me, the convenience store pulled up a ticket for the wrong lotto draw (which isn’t really that bad, it was just sort of funny) and literally nobody I live with understands that Whitney + Laptop = Leave Whitney Alone. Today is off to a better start. So how do you combat the terrible days when you can’t curl up and…

Ready for a change.

This is me. Today. I have a long history of weirdness going on with trips to the bank. Where people tend to flirt with me. It all started with a female teller who slipped me her number, and then the next week I had a five minute conversation with a guy about my writing. And it just kept happening. Not just tellers. Anyways, today I walked into the bank and the only teller set up (a guy) told me that he could help me fill out my deposit slips. I said no, because I’m a bit of a control freak…

[Vlog] LK Takes Over the Vlog

This week, I have a very special guest (okay, he’s the only special guest I’ve had on the vlog so far) – the Little Kidlet! I’ll be honest, we had a blast filming this one. Yes, the Little Kidlet watches videos on YouTube. Last year’s Christmas List? He and the Oldest Kidlet put them together entirely after watching kids’ toy review videos. Someday I’ll get the Oldest Kidlet to show up. Any questions or comments? Let me know?

The Redskins: Time for a Change

Recently the owner of the Washington Redskins (Daniel Snyder) commented that he’d never change the name of the team, despite the fact that people have long complained that it’s a racial slur. In a twist that’s made me happy, a lot of media outlets and journalists have objected to calling them the Redskins and simply refer to them as Washington. On Sunday, Bob Costas spelled it out (and yes, I do recommend that people watch this). I’ve seen some interesting responses. From people who say it’s about time, to those who don’t understand what the problem is- saying that this…

Recipe Friday: DIY Ramen.

I’m sort of taking a sick day- I got the cold that TheBoy had last weekend, and that the bulk of the Little Kidlet’s kindergarten class seem to have. While I’ve been good about washing my hands at home, and using hand sanitizer when I was in the classroom (I volunteer), there’s only so much you can do when kids actually cough or sneeze on your face. So for today, I’m going to share my fake ramen recipe. I mean, it’s really ramen- not from the little packages that you can get… but it’s my homemade version of what you…

Vlog 18: Whitney vs the Piano.

It’s that time again- after last week’s vlog, I got a few people who had no idea that I sing. So I put this video together. Yeah, my piano needs to be tuned. That will happen eventually. Have any questions? Ask me! I might put them in a future vlog. 🙂 Comments, I respond to those, too!

This is Halloween! (Almost)

Halloween is upon us! Amidst the deluge of pumpkin flavored products (avoid the Pumpkin Spice M&Ms), we’ve been gearing up for the holiday. The kidlets have picked out their costumes for the year- Thor and Captain America. Costumes bought, props procured. You didn’t think I’d miss the chance to play Thor for a bit… not with the blonde hair. We pulled out decorations this weekend, and there are some jack-o-lantern lights decorating the floor, and the Kidlets are begging me to buy more scary decorations. I’m not sure how scary they actually want it, since when I asked LK what…
