Comikaze 2014: Being Black Widow

This was our third year going to Comikaze Expo, and I have to say – it’s come a long way from the convention that made me want to weep because it took over an hour in the heat to get inside the convention center so I could wait in another line to get my badge. If you live in the LA area, I actually recommend going to Comikaze. It’s affordable, there’s plenty of food at the Convention Center and around it (we went to a nearby parking lot where there were a bunch of great food trucks)- the floor is…

[Vlog] Power Outages and Prompts (and a bonus cosplay vid!)

Over the weekend we had a planned power outage, and this is the full story. Mistakes and all. I also talk a little about my writing, and call myself an idiot. As a bonus, here’s my first cosplay progress video. It’s Abaddon from Supernatural. If you don’t watch the show (you should), this is what she looks like When I wear the cosplay to conventions, I’ll be doing this makeup to the left- but I had to see how the regular makeup test would work. Priorities.

If you’ve been following me on Twitter, I’ve been making plans for my next cosplay. Lady Loki. Well, a hybrid of the Lady Loki from the comics and a feminine version of Loki from the Avengers. I figured out the design, and I’ve figured out how to make the props I want. But there’s a huge problem. While I could finish it in time… there are a lot of things that should be higher up on my priority list. Namely, getting our stuff organized. We’ve been living here in with the in-laws for almost 5 years, and we sort of…

Valentines Day and Being Loki.

I was going to write about why I don’t really like Valentine’s Day (and the only Valentine’s Day that mattered to me) – but I did that two years ago. (Go read it, really!) What I do like is that it’s an excuse for me to make dinner for TheBoy. In years past, I’ve done steaks, risotto… this year I’m making turkey tikka masala w/ naan. YUM. However, the story I have to share today has nothing to do with V-Day. It has to do with The Avengers. Now, of TheBoy and I, I am the comic book geek. Though…

Whitney, TheBoy & Comikaze Expo

This weekend was the second Comikaze Expo (a pop culture convention saluting comics, movies, games of all sorts, and horror). Located at the LA Convention Center, I was eager to attend because they were really promoting it as an affordable convention with something to offer for everyone. And I had friends that would be there. I didn’t get to go to the first year of Comikaze, but I heard that there was promise- the people behind it were really enthusiastic and wanted to make sure that a lot of groups were represented. Then, Comikaze Expo partnered with Stan Lee (and…
