I’m not Steve.

I’m about to sound ancient. But is it so wrong to ask people to actually wait until someone’s voicemail is partially underway to hang up?

I admit, I don’t do that when I call my family- but they’re on speed dial. I know I’m calling them.

But when I call a number for the first time, I make sure I wait until the voicemail picks up- just to make sure it’s the right person. Today I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize, from an area code I wouldn’t normally get calls from. However, after doing a reverse lookup on the number- I realized I had family in that area. So I called it back, only to discover that it was a girl looking for a Steve. not steve

This was the conversation:

Me: Hello? I had two missed calls from this number-
Man: Oh, just a second.
Girl: Hello?
Me: Hi. I had two missed calls from your number…
Girl: Steve?
Me: Unless, you really think Steve sounds like a girl… I guess you had the wrong number. Good luck finding his number!

I honestly don’t mean to whine- but a lot of problems could be solved by listening to my voicemail. Which says “Hey, this is Whitney. Leave me a message and I’ll get back to you.”

Coupled with the fact that there’s an Orange County teacher named Jen who gave out my phone number as hers (by accident, I’m assuming) and who has given my number out to teachers… I’m probably stuck screening numbers until this gets sorted out. I’ve told the school numerous times that they need to get her accurate number, and yet, it’s still getting out.
