A walk, frozen in time.

I’m a big fan of nature, even if some plants are determined to kill me (seasonal allergies). I don’t like running on my treadmill, or even for walking on one. It just doesn’t feel right, to not feel the wind on my face.

Not very long ago we had a rainstorm pass through. As soon as the rain cleared up, I went for a walk. I put on my headphones, started playing the soundtrack to Pride & Prejudice and started walking. I might need Classic Rock for a run, but honestly- that soundtrack works well for walks. I imagined myself walking for miles, with my petticoat six inches deep in mud.

I walked along the trail, and managed to beat the weekend crowd. The pavement was still slick, the dirt trail was muddy. And the air was so crisp and clear. It was so quiet, too- almost as though I was the only person for miles. Quite an accomplishment in the middle of a housing tract.

It was as if someone had hit pause on a global remote.

Not long after I snapped this picture, I started to see more people on the trail. The puddles began to dry up, and while I still felt like I could keep going- that magic feeling of being alone in a frozen moment was gone.

I suppose I’ll just have to keep trying to chase more of those moments down.
