It’s been a roller coaster of a year for Women’s Hockey. The CWHL folded, 200 of the top women’s talent world-wide created the Professional Women’s Hockey Player Association in the hopes that they could create one league and get better benefits for all players.
There’s already been some buzz about the NWHL, notably that some of the partnerships with NHL teams seem to have been dissolved (more on that later). But there is some good news! You will be able to catch the NWHL games, all of them, on Twitch at www.twitch.com/nwhl (create an account, follow their channel and make sure you click to get notifications about when they’re online). You’ll be able to watch your favorite team, any special games, and the Isobel Cup!
So how is this different from their deal in previous years with YouTube? There’s profit sharing built in. For the first time, some of the revenue made will be split with players to create an additional revenue stream. So if you want to help your favorite team get paid, TUNE IN.
I’m excited because it means I can follow their games on my phone while watching the NHL on my TV.
