Big news for the NWHL and Women’s Hockey!

It’s been a roller coaster of a year for Women’s Hockey. The CWHL folded. 200 of the top women’s talent world-wide created the Professional Women’s Hockey Player Association in the hopes that they could create one league and get better benefits for all players.  But what about the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL)?

There’s been some buzz about the NWHL, notably that some of the partnerships with NHL teams seem to have been dissolved (more on that at a later date). But there is some good news! You will be able to catch NWHL games, all of them, on Twitch at www.twitch.com/nwhl! Create an account, follow their channel and make sure you click to get notifications about when they’re online. You’ll be able to watch your favorite team, any special exhibition games, All Star Games, and the Isobel Cup!

How is this different from their deal in previous years with YouTube?  And how does it benefit the players?  Profit sharing is built into the streaming platform. For the first time, some of the revenue from your views will be split with players. Which is a new revenue stream for them. So if you want to help your favorite team get paid, TUNE IN.  (And make sure to buy your favorite player’s merch!)

I’m excited, because it means I can follow their games, and do my part to help these talented women earn a living wage.  What are you looking forward to?
