#NoConfederate, bad ideas, and a lack of censorship

If you’ve been on Twitter the last two Sundays, you probably saw the hashtag #NoConfederate trending. Confederate is the next show announced by HBO and the men behind Game of Thrones. (Well, the non GRR Martin guys behind the show) It aims to show an alternate universe where the South wasn’t defeated and slavery exists in modern times. And people are upset. Both those who object to the show and those who think the objectors are trying to censor television. Why object to the show? After all, The Man in the High Castle is on multiple seasons and discusses what…

Riverdale: the Grundy problem

I’ve been watching Riverdale for the last four episodes. I’ve started and stopped so many posts about this show it isn’t funny. About the apparent erasure of Jughead’s identity of being asexual and aromantic (as the comics have spelled out) – as Cole Sprouse spilled in an interview before the show started airing. About how Kevin Keller’s written as though we’re still in the days of Will & Grace. All snark, sex, and stereotypes – but no real substance. About the continued queerbaiting with Betty & Veronica in promos, the awkward references that are sometimes out of date by the…

The Vlog is BACK!

Well, after a long gap in vlogging (I really was having a hard time getting over the cancellation of Agent Carter) – the Vlog is back! I’m doing another #WhitneyWatches video, but this time I’m taking on my biggest challenge yet – Season Two of Supergirl! This video’s mostly about the new additions and what changes switching to the CW has brought. If you haven’t yet, please take a second to subscribe to my YouTube channel and give the video a thumbs up! (Even though, the Pens fan in me is tickled that I’m currently at 87 subscribers)

[Video] Whitney Watches: AGENT CARTER RETURNS!

Peggy’s back! Last night, Agent Carter returned, kicking off Season 2. Just in case you can’t remember where the show left off, Peggy had stopped Russian Black Widow Dottie Underwood from destroying New York City. Howard left (and took Jarvis with him), and Peggy did her best to try to move on. This season seems to have picked up later in the same year, and with a two hour premiere (with two back to back episodes), they’ve established this season’s villains pretty firmly. So enjoy this vlog where I fangirl and drop a Hamilton reference. (Note: apparently I am wrong…

[VIDEO] Whitney Watches: Teen Wolf 5.12 “Damnatio Memoriae”

Another week, another vlog! I apologize for not getting this up yesterday. As it turns out, my editing skills are a bit rusty, so I missed out on that golden window of when I’m the only person using the internet in the house. Slow upload speeds are a pain, let me tell you. But it’s worse when you’re throttling other people’s homework or Minecraft. So, Teen Wolf. While I was fairly impressed by last week’s opener (though I did note that their season premiere episodes are always their strongest), I was a little disappointed by this episode. It wasn’t that…

Whitney Watches: Teen Wolf 5.11 “The Last Chimera”

Well guys, we’re back in Beacon Hills – for better or for worse. This episode picked up exactly where things left off- with the fall out from the night of the Supermoon. As I mentioned in the recap I posted earlier this week, a lot happened in the finale. Theo’s evilness was revealed, Scott died (but Melissa brought him back), Hayden died – but Theo brought her and a few other Chimera back from the dead. And we only sort of know what the Dread Doctors are up to. If you were wondering when the show was ever going to…

Update: Teen.Com’s Fanfic Shaming Post – Does Editing Fix it?

Update: Teen has taken down the blog post entirely (I’m glad I have these screencaps), my thoughts at the end of this post Yesterday’s post was spread by a fair number of people on the internet, and that makes me happy. It wasn’t just spread by fanfic writers, but by people who understood that bullying is wrong. On Twitter, I said I was convinced that while did do an about face and edit the title, they changed more than that. And I was right! I wonder if Ms. Daluisio edited herself.

[VIDEO] Whitney Watches: Teen Wolf 5.10 “Status Asthmaticus”

Well, we’ve made it through a whole season – so it’s time for the last Whitney Watches for Teen Wolf’s Season 5A. What did I think? Did we finally get some answers? Now, if you saw that and went… huh. I’m doing a season wrap up video this weekend. To talk about everything, especially what I would have done differently. And I might have a special guest – so make sure you check back for that!

[VIDEO] Whitney Watches: Teen Wolf 5.07 “Strange Frequencies”

This video covers episode seven of this season – “Strange Frequencies” So if you’re a fan, who has watched the episodes – this series is my critical look at what’s going on. It’s filled with spoilers, and I assume that you’ve watched the series for this discussion. (If you haven’t watched the episode yet, go watch it, and come back!) The episode titles have been pretty much on point this season- this one is based in Lydia’s theory that you could disrupt the Dread Doctors using certain frequencies. My outfit in the video is Lydia’s America Rag top, as seen…

[VIDEO] Whitney Watches: Teen Wolf 5.03 “Dreamcatchers”

This video covers episode three of this season – “Dreamcatchers” So if you’re a fan, who has watched the episodes – this series is my critical look at what’s going on. Granted, this episode is mostly recap, but it’s hard to really guess much about a season or talk about character arcs when you only have two episodes to base it on. Your thoughts on last night’s episode? I didn’t say it in the video, but I’m really sad about how the ep ended. That character was cool. As I said last week, I’m trying to wear a Teen Wolf…
