#KidletBros: First Impressions of Disney Infinity 3.0

This Sunday, BIL and his girlfriend surprised the KidletBros with Disney Infinity 3.0. The Saga Bundle (w/ Boba Fett!) and a bunch of figures to get them started – it’s their birthday and Christmas present from them. (I should point out it was only a surprise to the Kidlets, they’d asked us ahead of time if it was okay) What they got – the Saga Bundle, which included Boba Fett and the Twilight of the Republic playset (which came with Anakin and Ahsoka) and the Classic Trilogy. Then they bought Sabine, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Olaf and a set of SW…

JJ, Where Are The Women?

As you’ve probably heard, Star Wars: Episode VII is starting to film, and the main cast list has been announced. And in that list, there’s only one new woman (the other is Carrie Fisher). What gives? Sure, there weren’t a lot of women in the Original Trilogy – the only main female character was Leia. And the only other real female characters of any importance were Aunt Beru and Mon Mothma. (I have a hard time counting Oola since her sole purpose was to dance around and then be eaten by the Rancor) But the Extended Universe happened. And while…

[Vlog] The (few) things I don’t like about Ocarina of Time

This week’s vlog is a bit of a spin-off from last week’s vlog, where I talked about video games and mentioned that I had feelings about Legend of Zelda, namely Ocarina of Time. It’s my favorite video game. No, really. But as someone who loves it, there are a couple areas that I think could be improved, and things that drive me insane. So I discuss how the game treats its female characters (and I do have to say, it’s a treat that there are so many secondary characters that are important to the game that are female) and the…

[Vlog] 10: Q&A, Part II – Video Games

This is the final installment of my Q&A videos, and this amazing question was spun off from a point raised in my Fake Geek Girls video. So behold- discussing the SWM influence on video games, and a moment where I confess something that sounds utterly horrible when taken out of context. In this video I bring up the recent Tomb Raider game, and the controversy that popped up around E3. If you’re unfamiliar with it, I wrote a couple of blog posts about it- this one’s the first, and links to the second. Honestly, if you’re looking for a video…

My children are too much like me!

Hey! Listen! Every day, I share weird anecdotes and comments about the kidlets being geeklings. They really do take after me, in that they love video games, Star Wars, comic book characters (though in their animated adventures), and Ninja Turtles! But they also get just as obsessed about things as I do. (Whitney get obsessed? Riiiiigggghhhhtttt.) Which means that last night, as the kidlets brushed their teeth, I answered questions about why Ganondorf wanted the Triforce. Or while I was packing their lunch, I was quizzed about where Navi went after Ocarina of Time ended. On the road to school,…

Why, Ocarina of Time?

Ocarina of Time is probably one of my favorite video games, ever. There’s a great playability and a nice replay value. There are lots of little sidequests, and over a decade on, I’m still finding ways to improve. The reason I bought a 3DS was because I wanted the revamped version of Ocarina of Time. With the kidlets easing into video games, I knew it was a matter of time before they showed an interest in it. The game is harder than either of them were really ready for, so most of the temples/levels were completed with me doing most…

Catwoman, why are you bending like that?

For some reason DC thought it’d be smart to reboot their universe, and then issue a series of #0 issues to explain how the characters got to be who they were in the reboot. This is the cover of Catwoman #0 (I know, it says #1- but the zero covers all have the characters busting through their #1 cover art). Ow. Ow. Ow. Bodies do not bend that way unless there aren’t any bones in the torso. And the internet is pretty annoyed. Somewhere out there, I saw that DC thought that the internet outrage would sell issues (I went…

Why I won’t be playing the new Lara Croft game.

Note: This post still gets a fair amount of traffic, so I wanted to note that at the end of this post (and the related posts) there’s an update. Back when I was in college, everyone had Tomb Raider. I was no exception. Not to mention- I liked Lara Croft. I am a huge Indiana Jones fan, and here was a female counterpart who had it all. She knew the history, could handle the weapons, and was clever enough to outwit the bad guys time and time again- even if it meant making a difficult choice along the way. Frankly,…
