#RunDisney registration! Surprisingly stressful.

I am a veteran of comic cons. While I stopped going to San Diego Comic-Con, I remember registration days. I know how frustrating that is… And yet, RunDisney registration days terrify me. Mostly because these days, the races sell out quickly. Today’s registration day for the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, and I managed to get us signed up – but this was what it was like. 1. Load the Registration Page a half an hour early so that I can hit refresh right at 9am. 2. Have TheBoy’s last finish time handy, because they ask for proof of time for…

It’s Race Weekend!

Welcome to the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend… Better known as one of two weekends that TheBoy and I are guaranteed to have alone this year. Right now it’s pretty early to be up when you don’t have kids around, and it’s weird to realize that if the last couple months had gone differently, I’d be in the middle of running a 10k right now. If you’d missed an earlier post, because of The Thing I Can’t Talk About, I didn’t run for the last two months- so no 10k for me. I picked up my race packet, and let me…

Summer 2014: Getaway Weekend

Well, summer has been going, and I’ve been suspiciously quiet. I’ve had a lot going on, some that I can’t really get into – but there have been a lot of amazing things. Earlier this month, we decided to do a weekend trip near where TheBoy works- which is right off the beach. We’d bought a tent and a wagon (a tent for shade, and an all-terrain wagon to haul stuff) and packed up the kids. And it was an amazing weekend. We didn’t go watch fireworks by the marina, like we’d thought we were going to do- the kids…

The #Roadto10k, tripping and falling.

Surprisingly, I’m not being literal. Last week, my normal running routine was disrupted, and so I ran on a treadmill (it’s why I didn’t post any pictures or runtimes). I hate running on treadmills. There’s the slight incline, so your pace is always worse than usual. And then it’s boring. It doesn’t matter what you’re watching, the route’s just straight. No turns or curves. Just straight ahead, and constantly thinking about whether or not the speed is where you need it. Sunday, I didn’t go on my big run. It was just the kids and I, and nobody to watch…

#Roadto10k, the beginning

If you follow me on Instagram… or any social media account, now that I think about it, you probably have seen some pictures tracking my runs- all tagged with #roadto10k. This August, I’m running the Disneyland 10k, as part of RunDisney’s Disneyland Half-Marathon Weekend. It is by far the longest run I’ll ever have attempted (and will probably attempt), and I chose it in order to really get myself out the door. So I set up a training regimen designed to get me running about 5.5 miles by the race (knowing what I know now- I can probably finish the…

Vlog Madness! DL Half Marathon and 9/11 Healing vs Holding On

Wow guys, I realize now that I didn’t post last week’s vlog vid here, so you get two vids on one page. First, TheBoy and I did the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend over Labor Day weekend (he did the Half Marathon, I did the 5k) and so I vlogged about it! Yesterday was 9/11 and I’ve written a lot about it, but had a couple things to say. (Just in case you weren’t in the mood for me to gloss over my feelings, the first minute is actually about TheBoy. So watch it and then stop) If you have ANYTHING…

Blood and Iron.

I’ve been working on a much longer blog post, one that I want to get just right. And I’ve been writing. Lots of fiction, which tends to mean I don’t get as many ideas for this blog. So instead, you get this, an update on my health. My iron is up, though not in normal range yet. I’m still on liquid iron for the foreseeable future, but I’ve become much better at getting the straw further down in my mouth so that I don’t wind up tasting it. Liquid iron tastes like sucking on rusty nails with some dirt taste…

A walk, frozen in time.

I’m a big fan of nature, even if some plants are determined to kill me (seasonal allergies). I don’t like running on my treadmill, or even for walking on one. It just doesn’t feel right, to not feel the wind on my face. Not very long ago we had a rainstorm pass through. As soon as the rain cleared up, I went for a walk. I put on my headphones, started playing the soundtrack to Pride & Prejudice and started walking. I might need Classic Rock for a run, but honestly- that soundtrack works well for walks. I imagined myself…

Thoughts on C25K

In training for the 5k, I did what many people who haven’t exercised at all have done- turned to Couch to 5k to help me do it. I followed the routine fairly religiously. I started off by walking a mile for a couple of weeks, and then started the program. But no matter what I did, I hit a wall at Week 3 Day 2. I just couldn’t finish it. Would I recommend it? It’s a good system that I know others have had some success with, but it just wasn’t for me. I do think it’s worth giving it…

Go the Distance.

Sorry it’s taken me awhile to get this post up. You would not believe the weekend I’ve had. Aside from the 5k, we had no water at the house for a day and then the internet was dead. If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you’ll know that on Saturday, I ran the Never Land 5k at Disneyland. And it was my first 5k. So how did it go? Well, I finished. It was a great course- sort of like reliving 1998-2002 in 3.2 miles. Especially since TheBoy was right there by my side. The course…
