Goodbye Zorro

Friday night, we said Goodbye to Zorro. For those who didn’t know – Zorro was our nearly 20 year old cat. That’s right. He was just a few months shy of 20.

Zorro: a trip to the vet and corn in cat food.

In our very full house, we have a cat named Zorro. He’s our cat, not the in-laws. In fact, he’s 14, and adopted TheBoy and I one day. Aside from the brief reign of terror when we moved into this house, he’s mellow but vocal. (That’s when he made the decision to become Alpha Cat. So much spraying.) Over last weekend (not the one that just ended, but the one before), he was puking. A lot. I took away his food in order to see if it helped. That’s when I noticed he was just… off. Not really talking, just…

What you don’t expect.

Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet. The Kidlets’ school year ended shortly after Memorial Day, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to make summer vacation work with my work from home job. It hasn’t exactly been easy. The first couple days were fantastic- the Kidlets made sure that I had a solid 4 hours of work in the morning and then we’d run errands and do stuff in the afternoon. This was Halloween.

This is a tale of half-hearted Halloweens and cat pee. My kids are at that stage where they’re just starting to get Halloween. The little one is a little scare of decorations, but the older one is embracing all of that. We’d had big plans for the weekend. We were going to a family Halloween party on Saturday night (which is pretty big- they get one of the cousins to DJ and there are decorations and games), but TheBoy was exhausted from a long work week. It seemed pretty silly to drag two already cranky boys out, as well as…

Fire, no sleep, and someone needs to get fired.

Right now there’s a fire burning up in the hills between Whittier and Hacienda Heights (they’ve dubbed it the Colima Incident). It started yesterday afternoon and is apparently contained- of course, I had to wait until this morning to find that out. I wish that local news would keep up with these things around the clock. At least for the community nearby. The weirdest thing is that it’s along the I drive daily coming back from the preschool, so it’s a little odd to think that we were just there hours before it started. Today, we drove back the way…

First day of school!

That is what I was woken up with yesterday morning. Actually, that’s what I was woken up with a second time yesterday morning, because our cat (yes, we have a cat again- I’ll explain that in a moment) decided to wake me up at 3 am because his food bowl was empty. Then, at 5:45 my oldest came in to tell me that it was his first day of school, and that he’d also wet his underwear. Amusingly enough, he’d only wet a little and as soon as I’d stripped him out of the wet clothes, he ran into the…
